The Dunsmuir fuel break was designed to create a more fire safe condition along CalTrans Right of Way lands adjacent to Interstate 5 and reduce wildfire risk to the City of Dunsmuir. SVRCD implmented the project in partnership with CalFire, the City of Dunsmuir, the Dunsmuir Fire Department, the Dunsmuir Fire Safe Council, and CalTrans.
The fuel break is located along the east-side of the I-5 corridor in Dunsmuir. It involved cutting and chipping of small trees and brush on CalTrans property.
The work was completed in November 2021.
Funding for this project was provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection as part of the California Climate Investments Program.
